Maharashtra Government Hub

The Maharashtra Government Hub supports Maharashtrans and their democracy by bringing together information, experts, organizations, policy makers, and the public to facilitate greater engagement in central, state, and local politics along with more civil, positive discussions and collaborations on important issues and governance.

Maharashtra Government Hub is one of many state government hubs being launched next year by the nonpartisan, nonprofit onAir Networks.  Other state hubs will be discoverable in the future at the national India Government Hub.

Maharashtra is a state in the western peninsular region of India occupying a substantial portion of the Deccan Plateau. It is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, the Indian states of Karnataka and Goa to the south, Telangana to the southeast and Chhattisgarh to the east, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to the north, and the Indian union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu to the northwest. Maharashtra is the second-most populous state in India and the third-most populous country subdivision globally.

University of Mumbai

The University of Mumbai is a public state university in Mumbai. It is one of the largest university systems in the world with over 549,000 students on its campuses and affiliated colleges. As of 2013, the university had 711 affiliated colleges. Ratan Tata is the appointed head of the advisory council.

Eknath Shinde

Eknath Sambhaji Shinde is an Indian politician who is serving as the 20th and Current Chief Minister of Maharashtra since 30 June 2022. He is also serving as the Leader of Shiv Sena since February 2023 and the Leader of the House, Maharashtra Legislative Assembly since July 2022. He is also the Member of Legislative Assembly for the Kopri-Pachpakhadi constituency of Thane, Maharashtra since 2009 and was formerly the MLA of Thane constituency from 2004 to 2009. He was earlier the Cabinet Minister of Urban Development and Public Works (Public Undertakings) and State Border defence (second) in the Cabinet of Uddhav Thackeray from 2019 to 2022 and the Cabinet Minister of Public Works (Public Undertakings) and Public Health and Family Welfare in the Devendra Fadnavis ministry from 2014 to 2019, Chief Leader of Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena from 2022 to 2023 and the 25th Leader of the Opposition, Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 2014 to 2014.

Maharashtra Legislature

The Maharashtra Legislature is the supreme legislative body of the state of Maharashtra. It is a bicameral legislature composed of the Governor of Maharashtra and two houses, The Maharashtra Legislative Council (Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad) and The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha). The governor in his role as head of the legislature has full powers to summon and prorogue either house of legislature or to dissolve the Legislative Assembly.

The Maharashtra Legislative Council or Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad is the upper house of the bicameral legislature of Maharashtra state in western India.

The state is divided into 6 divisions and 36 districts, with the state capital being Mumbai, the most populous urban area in India, and Nagpur serving as the winter capital. The Godavari and Krishna are the two major rivers in the state and forests cover 16.47 percent of the state’s geographical area. The state is home to six UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Ajanta Caves, Ellora Caves, Elephanta Caves, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus), The Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai and The Western Ghats, a heritage site made up of 39 individual properties of which 4 are in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra is one of the most industrialised states in India. The state’s capital, Mumbai, is India’s financial and commercial capital. India’s largest stock exchange Bombay Stock Exchange, the oldest in Asia, is located in the city, as is National Stock Exchange, which is the second largest stock exchange in India and one of world’s largest derivatives exchanges. The state has played a significant role in the country’s social and political life and is widely considered a leader in terms of agricultural and industrial production, trade and transport, and education. Maharashtra is the ninth-highest ranking among Indian states in the human development index.
